NEM Net Income - Last 5 Quarters

It is painful to state that so many important investment decisions are based on a P/E ratio, but it is very hard to find a clear explanation on how to calculate this very P/E for a given company. This article is written to demonstrate, how to calculate Earnings Per Share (EPS) and P/E using Newmont Mining (NEM) as an example. We have to start with obvious banality: Price-to-Earnings ration (P/E) is a Stock Price ($50) divided by the total of last 12 month earnings. What type of earnings we need to get?  We need “Net Income Applicable To Common Shares”. Where can we get this information?  Some free sites provide last…

What is an isthmus? It is a relatively narrow strip of land (with water on both sides) connecting two larger land areas. Why Panama? Because it is irresistible. It was irresistible for everyone, who looked at the map of Americas for 400 years. At first, they search for a open waterway. There was none. Then they searched a passage to the North and to the South of the continent. On September 6, 1522 a news reached Spain that there is a water passage to the South. Only one ship with 18 men returned. They started 3 year earlier with 5 ships and a crew of 237. Ice and cold securely blocked…

WFF2015 - Lira in a Mess Hall

Camp Walden, Diamond Point, NY August 16-23, 2015 Don Bennett – http://health101.org/ Raw Food Our ancestors were slowly gathering fruits and plants to eat.  We need to emulate this pattern with eating mostly tropical fruits for calories and nutrition.  For minerals we need to eat greens and  other vegetable.  Emprasis on RAW is made for two main reason: (01) coking is destroying nutritional values of the food, and (02) cooked food is modified food.  That makes it a stranger in our digestive system. 80-10-10 Eating mostly fruits will dictate a certain ratio of where we getting out calories from.  That way we can  get 80% of our calories from carbohydrates (raw fruits);  10% from  protein and 10%…

Secular vs Religious

Summary: – secular and religious view on a human being; –  base for moral code. How we stumbled upon a fundamental difference I was speaking on the phone to my friend on the way home from Connecticut. We touched many subject, but eventually we hit the most evil of them all – Peter the Great, Napoleon, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler.  My friend said that without a doubt there is nothing good can be said about Lenin and Stalin.  I was objecting that Lenin was striving very hard in his own way to bring happiness to all humanity, and Stalin in some 50 years will be perceived as great as Peter the Great. …

Perihelion and Solstice are not related – Wow!

2017/10/14
By
Modified: 2017/09/16

Attention! I just realized that Perihelion and Solstice has NOTHING to do with each other. Earth Perihelion is when Earth is closest to the sun.  For example this time it falls on January 2, 2016.  That does NOT affect season change on planet Earth and this date moves forward rather quickly (1 calendar day every 60 years) through our human centuries. Being closest to the Sun doesn’t specifically affect the season in Northern hemisphere for two reasons: First – the difference between closest and furthest distances from the Sun is only 3.4%.  Imagine being able to see an object from 91.4 yards other than from 94.5 yards. Second – the entire planet (both hemispheres) is being…

Benefits of Corruption

Both relentless competition between countries and insider power struggle destroy weak governments and preserve strong and powerful ones.  In most all modern states, we see corruption is present in larger or smaller degree.  This could be an argument that after several thousand years of wars and survival, selection preserved systems that have some viable advantages over other systems that died and long gone. Let’s first close the moral side of the problem.  This article in no way justifies the corruption.  Instead, author is driven by desire to replace an endless frustration with a rational analysis.  Corruption is bad and dangerous phenomenon, but why it perseveres? In any system – democratic or…
