07-11 First picture of the day

July 3, Wednesday Around 13:30 on Wednesday things seemed slow enough at work that I saw an opportunity to make an early start for the White Mountains.  I quickly gathered all the things, and departed by 15:00. Around 15:20 a phone call caught me on route 128, and I made a stop on a Rest Area to connect to work and do some fixes.  The connection was unusually slow, and I couldn’t get close to the windows (for better signal) because of the sun.  Around 16:46 I was done, traffic became a solid menace by this time.  Instead of braving the traffic for several hours on the way to New Hampshire, I decided to…

I never can't remember the Notepad equivalent of "F3" (Find Next) in Word and Excel. Here are the keyboard shortcuts, that are most useful, but almost impossible to remember. Also I constantly need Euro currency symbol (€) and Temperature Degree symbol (°), when writing my travel notes about Europe.

WP-Users-with-Date-Column

This solution was last tested on WordPress 4.1.1 in March 2015.   This solution was tested on WordPress 3.1 running on IIS7 and IIS 7.5.  It will work on WordPress 3.1.1, on 3.2.1, and on 3.5.1.    This solution was just tested on WordPress 3.8.1 and works very well. This solution adds a new column to your admin user page, and makes it sortable (optional).   Here are the steps. -01- Find wp-admin\includes\class-wp-users-list-table.php and make a backup copy of the file. Call it class-wp-users-list-tableORIG.php.   -02- Open wp-admin\includes\class-wp-users-list-table.php in your favorite editor.   -03- Find line function get_columns() {   -04- Add a new line of code ‘user_registered’ => __(‘Date’), after…

IE opens blank new tabs instead of your home page

IE - Blank page on new tab

You have  masterfully designed custom home page for your Internet Explorer (IE).  All of a sudden, only first tab displays your home page.  All other new tabs in IE open as a blank page.  What happened?  Something is changing IE settings  back to “A blank page” ? This particular fix for this article was tested on Win7 x64 with IE9. In a few words, you need to delete this registry entry vprot.exe from location HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run   A little bit more radical solution is to run a 3 line script on Startup to delete all intruding entries from all 3 possible Startup locations in Registry. This solution is absolutely great, because it…

New User Registration in WordPress 3.X

WordPress-User-Registration

There is a certain magic in many well-constructed marvels.  This definitely applies to a WordPress.  Just recently I needed to fix something inside user registration procedure, and with very limited PHP knowledge, I was able to figure out, what was going on and fix the problem. On the way there, I couldn’t help but admire, how well everything is documented and linked-in to minimize code duplication.  There is an obvious truth in saying that “the best things in life are free”. When user clicks on a link to register, a wp_login.php page opens up.  This page is a conglomerate of  3 different page-forms: — login, — register and — recover a password. Proper…

Potable Aqua PA Plus Iodine Water Purification Tablets

Everything is ready for the trip to Wild River wilderness.  This time I am planning to stay in the wild 2 nights from Friday to Sunday and return to the car on my bike on Sunday.  Monday as usual would be a “freelance” day for light exploration and contemplation. I will carry a large KELTY backpack that I inherited from my former boss – Gary Welsh.  He most likely took this vintage backpack to his trips to Nepal (before 1996).  All this time this backpack was gathering dust in my basement, and only this year it finally dawned on me that I do not have scramble for space and eliminate either…

14-26 Last mile to the top

09:53 – All trails are starting from the main road 09:54 – Dartmouth Ravine Lodge – the place of fun the place of knowledge   After breakfast at cash only place in North Woodstock (where route 3 crosses with 112) I drove to Ravine Lodge on route 118, and started my way to the top at 10:35. This Memorial day weekend the weather was rainy and cold. But here, at 777 m elevation the rain turned into snow, and it was a very festive white on green, but snow here was just a pretty ornament. 10:36 – Starting point to mount Moosilauke. Snow is just an fairy tale ornament here…
